Hi, there:

    We are installing the TeX distribution obtained from ftp.shsu.edu.
The installation is successful, and we construct the data the directory
according to the specifications in the file /kpathsea/HIER.

    Now we need to bring AMSLaTeX to our TeX system.  We are not able to
determine where to put the pk files. According to the description in HIER,
we should put pk files to (prefix)/lib/texmf/ams/<typeface>/pk. How to
organize with */pk directory puzzles us.  The AMS pk files are organized
by the dpi number. It is not clear if these pk files works with what kind
of printer device.

    Forgive me if my question is naive.  We didn't have any complex
and complete TeX installation before.  Hope you can give me some hints.
If you can tell us what these pk files are and how they work, it would be
really helpful.
